Day 90 — A Day of Play

By |2018-12-30T17:06:20-08:00December 22, 2018|dachshunds|

Twas the Saturday before Christmas and all through the house... there was activity! The pack went off during the night when Ric took Shiloh by our bedroom door so Shiloh could use the backyard. INTRUDER ALERT! Then when I got up Zenith went into the kitchen in front of Ric's closed door and tried to declare an ALERT at 5:30 in the morning. That rebellion was quelled, but the tone was set for the day. Aurora was initiated in Dealing with Family! Ric and Geoffrey went out shopping early, leaving the pack +1 with me. More whining and pacing! Most [...]

Day 89 — Another Day, Another Shot

By |2018-12-30T16:07:45-08:00December 21, 2018|dachshunds|

Today was the third puppy shot day for Aurora, the second time she received the lepto vaccine which her aunt is allergic to. The only photos from the day come from the rest that she and her aunt had together in bed before Aurora had to go for her meds. Apex was into comfort at 8:14 while Aurora was still thinking of playing. Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, says Apex Fortunately, the visit with Dr. Chase was uneventful. We waited 30 minutes after the lepto shot to make sure there was no sign of a reaction and monitored her all the way home. Apparently, Aurora takes [...]

Day 87 — Caught Outside

By |2018-12-29T18:06:25-08:00December 19, 2018|dachshunds|

With less than a week before Christmas, we all have been busy! There was just time today to track the girls down in the way back and to snap them at play a couple times. This is the better of the shots. Aurora and Apex in the Way Back Sorry about the focus, Aurora!

Day 86 — Let’s Go Outside!

By |2018-12-29T17:45:33-08:00December 18, 2018|dachshunds|

Aurora definitely likes chewing the back yard. Aurora Tasting the Greenery on the other Side of the Yard, over by the Lemon Trees This morning she started out in the middle-back on the side of the lemon trees. She hadn't thoroughly explored this area before, so I hovered over her to see that she didn't discover something poisonous or particularly icky. Fortunately, there was just the normal garden detritus which Aurora thought was yummy! Soon Aurora returned to the way back where Apex hangs out. Both girls happily munched on stuff. Aurora had her fallen tree to explore and gnaw [...]

Day 85 — Monday Visitor Tries to Get Her to Go Down!

By |2018-12-29T16:46:50-08:00December 17, 2018|dachshunds|

Aurora had another visitor today, even though it was a work day! Aurora's visitor was confident that with a little encouragement she'd decide that she could go down the stairs and not just run up them. Temping Aurora to Come Down the Stairs He was encouraging and persistent. But, she wasn't having it. Those steps look too tall going down! The rest of the pack was bored by all the attention the puppy was getting when she wasn't even doing a simple thing like walking down the stairs. Here are Apex (yawing) and Zenith (mugging) after Aurora has backed off into the hallway rather than coming [...]

Day 84 — Sunday Visitors

By |2018-12-29T16:13:54-08:00December 16, 2018|dachshunds|

Sunday is the traditional day to receive visitors. Aurora likes tradition! Charles and John visit Aurora Charles noticed that Aurora was more hesitant to come up to him than she was during his initial visit. We've been told that puppies her age go through a shy stage, and we need to keep her meeting people so the shyness doesn't become a character trait. As it is, she looks dubious coming up to a visitor's hand. We think she'd think it'd smell better if there was a treat in it! She thinks he'd smell better if there were a treat in [...]

Day 83 – Kitchen Confidential, Take 2

By |2018-12-29T15:34:12-08:00December 15, 2018|dachshunds|

The girls decided that they needed to improve their under-the-butcher-block look recorded in an earlier post. Geoffrey summoned me to snap the pack when they were satisfied with their pose. Under the Butcher Block If anyone wonders if dogs are den animals, this photograph should help them make up their mind. All four girls are squeezed into a hide-a-pet which is pushed under the butcher block in the kitchen. Comfortable, and safe from falling objects in an earthquake! About 2:30 most of the pack was sleeping, but puppy energy kept Aurora wandering the back yard and coming up the stairs. (She can only [...]

Day 82 — The Camera Comes Out at Night

By |2018-12-29T15:04:57-08:00December 14, 2018|dachshunds|

Today was filled with more business for the humans, and the camera didn't start recording Aurora's adventures until the 7:45 play session and dinner. The fortunately, Aurora is still being offered lunch, so the later dinner doesn't weaken her too much! She played some with the pack and carefully watched Apex's ball playing from the back door. Day 82 - Door Guard Then when dinner was being prepared she showed Aunt Apex how much she appreciated the attention. I Love My Aunt!

Day 81 — Comfort and Joy

By |2018-12-29T15:05:30-08:00December 13, 2018|dachshunds|

For a Thursday, we took a lot of mid-day photographs! But, we had to. The girls were inspiring comfortable! Comfortable Ingredients- or, as we said in our calendar pages - Kitchen Confidential  Of course, once the girls woke up for the morning nap, Aurora took out to the way back to sample the greens growing there. Chewing in the Way Back Apex is definitely Aurora's outdoor guide and caretaker. Zenith usually stops at the back doorstep and watches Aurora wander outside... but, just for a while. Then Zenith retreats to her comfort in the kitchen. Apex, on the other hand, guards Aurora in the back wilds [...]

Day 80 — She only LOOKS Cherubic

By |2018-12-12T16:37:55-08:00December 12, 2018|dachshunds|

Five of us are exhausted and our patience is worn thin. Apparently Aurora slept very, very, very well last night. During the day today she's been in non-stop motion. She started the day by challenging other pack members for Geoffrey's robe while he showered. Day 80 -- Starting out Feisty She did briefly nap while I had a business conference call around 9 (thank you, Aurora). But, she she perked up and decided to taunt her pack mates and me from about 11 on. She was especially whiny around noon, and I took that as a hint that [...]
