Day 84 — Sunday Visitors

Sunday is the traditional day to receive visitors. Aurora likes tradition!

Charles noticed that Aurora was more hesitant to come up to him than she was during his initial visit. We’ve been told that puppies her age go through a shy stage, and we need to keep her meeting people so the shyness doesn’t become a character trait.

As it is, she looks dubious coming up to a visitor’s hand. We think she’d think it’d smell better if there was a treat in it!

Day 61 — Maintaining Traditions and Meeting MORE People

After the big Thanksgiving dinner for the humans, we all weighed ourselves this morning. In Aurora’s case — and only in her case! — heavier is better. Today she was 4 pounds 6 ounces.  That’s five ounces more than the last time we weighed her five days ago. Good girl!

The pack stayed together and decompressed most of the day. By “decompress” I mean run, chase, chew, and snarl for an hour or so followed by complete collapse for several hours; repeat!

Aurora’s newest discovery is how to walk up the side of the decomposing planter box and join generations of dachshunds in staring at the world from its heights.

Cute girl!

Geoffrey did some work on his computer in the TV room. The pack happily joined him.

The long weekend let Aurora show off to more visitors.

We were very happy to have our neighbors come over to see the puppy that the must have been hearing throw temper tantrums!

Day 61 — Charming the Neighbors

Aurora showed off her ability to run and hold on to the ball at the same time. She also enjoyed being held and petted — adoration is always a good thing.

Later Aurora met more friends for dinner. Ron and Richard were generous attention-givers, too.

Day 28 — A Taste of Food and Friends

I had to post a bulletin this morning because of an unintentional event:

Day 28 – Puppy Progress Bulletin!
Zenith decided that she couldn’t wait for breakfast in the kitchen, she wanted to be closer to MUNI. So, I put Zenith in the whelping box and brought a bowl of the puppy food she’s been eating to her.

MUNI smelled the food and waddled over to the bowl. The two of them ate together for a while — there are no good pictures because of the low lights and all you see in the shots are back of heads, but it happened. Then Zenith backed off and MUNI did some more nibbling.

Later MUNI drank a bit from mom and zonked out after her heavy breakfast.

Day 28 — MUNI’s first solid food day.

The bulletin was posted with these two photos (and, don’t forget, you can always click on a photo a couple times for bigger and bigger versions!).

MUNI decided that she didn’t want to eat more solid food later that day, but it was a start!

We had a happy day, taking BART to Berkeley Rep for The Dolls House, Part 2.  All the girls were good the four+ hours we were out of the house… the longest both of us have been gone since the puppies arrived.

That evening we had an evening with Tony. He became the first non-Dad, non-vet to pet her!

Day 28 — A Visitor

Of course, Geoffrey did a great job soothing MUNI (and Zenith) about the traumatic new experience, called “meeting people”.
